The "Manuel Giménez Abad" Foundation for Parliamentary Studies and Autonomous Law takes its name from the politician and jurist assassinated by the terrorist group ETA on May 6, 2001.
After his death, all political forces understood the need to respond to the challenge that he represented his assassination in the best way democracy can respond.
From the vindication of freedom and the parliament as the exclusive forum for the resolution of any controversy.
For this reason, the Foundations fundamental purposes are to contribute to the investigation, knowledge and dissemination of Parliament and the model of territorial distribution of power that the autonomous state represents, the two fields to which Manuel Giménez Abad dedicated his professional and political life.Established on April 18, 2002, its founders were the Cortes de Aragón, the Jaca City Council, the Caja de Ahorros y Montes de Piedad de Zaragoza, Aragón y Rioja and the Caja de Ahorros de la Inmaculada.The Foundation is integrated into the structure of the Cortes de Aragón.
Its parliamentary condition is expressed in its board of trustees: on the one hand, because one of its Co-Presidents will be the President of the Cortes of Aragon; on the other hand, because all the Parliamentary Groups will be represented on its board on an equal footing, with one representative each.
In this way, one of the objectives of the founders was radically guaranteed: pluralism in the development of their studies.In its activities, the unwaivable double commitment to rigor and pluralism stands out.
Rigor as an academic requirement necessary to provide their activities with the greatest transcendence and pluralism as well as a requirement consistent with its parliamentary nature as an essential requirement of that rigor.All the work of the Foundation is a vindication of the values ​​of freedom, equality and respect for free coexistence and ideological pluralism, inherent to Parliament and democracy.
